Managers or administrators of Moodle platforms are required to apply different maintenance policies regarding the course lifecycle. One of the policies is to archive completed courses in another secondary Moodle platform, called the Archive platform, and to initialize future empty courses without content on the Active platform. In this scenario, administrators require a plugin that will allow them to transfer many courses between different Moodle platforms with or without user data in a controlled, plant-based, and reliable way. On the other hand, teachers need to reuse resources and activities from their archived courses, so the plugin allows for the import of content directly from the remote archived site to the active site.
Getting this functionality across Moodle platforms requires configuration by your company's admins.
Using Course Transfer makes it possible to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of administrators and teachers in managing and organizing courses. Teachers are spared the unproductive activity of re-using materials between platforms, as they would normally have to connect to the archived Moodle, make a backup of the course, download it to their local PC and restore it to the current Moodle. For administrators, it improves the efficiency of maintenance activities, as the plugin is designed to keep a detailed record of the transfer status of each course, allowing the administrator to ensure that all transferred courses have been successfully completed. Course upload tasks can be started by administrators from the web view or via a CLI command, on a scheduled or live basis.
Course transfer is aimed at universities, institutions or companies that have different federated Moodle sites under the same administration.
Course transfer is compatible with Moodle 3.11 (PHP 7.4) and above, and can be easily integrated with other Moodle functions and plugins.
The plugin is open source and therefore free. This means that you can use Course transfer without any license fee, and you can also modify, improve and share it with others, thanks to the UNIMOODLE University Consortium, which created and maintains Course transfer.
Course Transfer was developed and integrated as a plugin for Moodle by our partner 3iPunt. Moodle is the world's largest e-learning platform.
